FAQ

1. How soon ahead of time do I need to make campsite reservations?
Applications may be submitted at any time. However, reservations will be confirmed by the Free Camps Registrar no more than 11 months in advance.

2. Can I book a campsite for my family?
Our use requirements state that your group must be a nonprofit organization that serves human need. Therefore, we cannot allow retreats to be booked for family reunions or cabin rental.

3. Can I book multiple campsites at the same time?
Having large groups use more than one campsite causes a lot of river traffic and can disturb other groups’ retreat experience. Because of this, the Foundation discourages the use of multiple campsites.

4. Can I take a tour of the Foundation Facilities?
Tours of the Foundation Facilities can be scheduled through one of our Guest Services Managers. Please call 830-258-5600 to schedule a camp tour.

5. Can I bring my tent or camper?
Because our facilities are designed for specifically sized groups, and because of the impact that tents and campers have on our infrastructure, we do not allow tent camping or recreational vehicle use.

6. Are the cabins heated and cooled.
Most of our cabins, dining facilities, and ranch houses are heated. With some exceptions, most facilities do not have air conditioning.

7. What is an orientation?
Upon arrival, each group must listen to an orientation from one of our Guest Services Managers. We will include Foundation history, expectations, and answer any questions your group may have. We will also meet with your cooks, lifeguards, and first-aid provider. Orientations will be scheduled with your group leader before your retreat date. They usually take approximately 20 minutes.
